Pictures of New Pathfinder Minis Released

Pictures of the four prepainted miniatures representing the pregenerated characters in the new Pathfinder Beginner Box have been released. The detail on these prepaints is absolutely stunning. Unfortunately the anime-influenced stylings of the minis are not much to my personal liking. Wizards that look like steroid-injecting professional wrestlers just don't quite fit into my world. I'll stick to my old lead for now... I dig magic users with pointy hats, thieves with lanterns, and hobbits with hash pipes.

  1. I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with monsters. I'm particularly fond of their lizard folk as well as some of their original beasts with a sci-fi bent.

Yeah, definitely! I mostly use prepainted minis for my monsters (I need a lot, and a lot of variety), and old lead minis for PCs and NPCs.

  3. 2nd guy from the left in the back row among the old-lead is a druid.

  4. I like that someone is still doing pre-painted minis.

  5. Hey, what's wrong with anime influences? I must admit, that wizard is the buffest one I've ever seen. Maybe he rolled 18's on both STR and INT.

I've never played a wizard that ever wore a pointy hat.

  6. Incidentally, they're not 'included with the new Pathfinder Beginner Box'. They're intended for use *with* the Beginner Box, but sold separately by WizKids. The Beginner Box itself will include card representations, I believe.

There's nothing wrong with it, it's just not my thing.

That being said, I wouldn't mind seeing more Hayao Miyazki influence in the modern commercial fantasy aesthetic. I love Miyazaki, and even made the pilgrimage to the Studio Ghibli Museum in Mitaka a few years ago.

I realize that my tastes are in the minority and that pointy wizard hats were pretty much out of favor by the early 80s. Yes, sad Cyclopeatron is stuck in the 1970s - a time he never even knew.

Thanks for the clarification! I edited the post.

  9. I like that the wizard in the back right is using a dart. Also, is that a cowboy hat on the wizard in white on the front left?

  11. This is what wizard's should look like as far as I'm concerned:
