Captain Beefheart Died Today

Bye Captain...

Damn this is hitting me pretty hard. I was obsessed with Captain Beefheart when I was a teenager. I even used to have his old big green easy chair in my bedroom. He lived near my house when I was growing up and I hung out with some of his acid damaged buddies in the diners and trailer parks of Lancaster, California. I don't know how many hundreds of times I've listened to Trout Mask Replica.

  1. That's depressing as hell. What a brilliant guy.

  3. I did not know about him until I heard a announcement about his death on KTVU (I dont live in the SF bay area anymore, but I do get their broadcast in my area). From what was noted, Don Van "Captain Beefheart" Vliet was not just a revolutionary musician, but also an artist, and he died of multiple sclerosis at the age of 69.

  4. I'm sorry for your loss (and the music world's loss!). I mainly know his work from the early stuff he did with Zappa, but I also own Trout mask replica on Cd and give it a listen every so often. He really was a visionary, just out of this world.
