Let me know if you can think of any other pre-2009 old school gameblogs.
I don't know why I am compelled to undertake these tedious blogometric exercises. I think it reflects some sort of personality disorder I have.
I started my game site in August 2007. I switched it over to blog format later that year but mostly posted about boardgames and stuff (which I've since taken offline to keep things more focused on RPGs). I refocused on old school D&D in March 2008.
ReplyDeleteCyclopeatron, if it's a disorder, at least it's an interesting one. :)
ReplyDeleteI refocused on old school D&D in March 2008.
ReplyDeleteCool - I put your blog on the list!
I started mine as a horror blog in 2007 but switched focus in Dec (on the Solstice no less) of 2008.
ReplyDeleteMy use of the Old School tag on my wiki blog goes back to spring 2008. It was never too popular, though. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely interesting. I think we all like looking back like this, trying to make sense of a personal experience, understand it. We're essentially a backward-looking community, and it's natural that we retreat to the basics at a time of change, with blogs shutting down and the energy moving in new directions, out to G+. Maybe this is a natural end, or a transfer into one or more new things.
ReplyDeletechgowiz's old site (oldguyrpg.blogspot.com) started in June 2008. Just to confirm your records.
ReplyDeleteFWIW, I started my original Adventures in Gaming blog on Blogspot on May 10, 2007.
ReplyDeleteMatt Finch had a short-lived blog in 2005 called Mythmere’s Musings. It was C&C focused but makes interesting reading given how the history of our scene has unfolded.
ReplyDeleteThank you all for your input! I have updated the list accordingly.
ReplyDeleteYour doing this stuff actually keeps me from doing it, so it's enormously appreciated. :-)
ReplyDeleteI found this interesting since I didn't start following any blogs regularly until this year. Thanks for the effort!
ReplyDeleteI created my blog in June 2008 so I could reserve the name.
ReplyDeleteBut I didn't actually start blogging until about four months ago.
Does that count for anything? LOL
I consider David Larkin's RPG Corner to be old school. His first post is January 2006:

I believe Scott Driver's OD&D Wilderlands blog was up in 2008. It's now defunct though.
ReplyDeleteIt was the first OSD&D blog I read.
Aventuras en la Marca del Este started in 2005.
ReplyDeleteThanks!!!
Yeah Jeff Rients from 2004! His early stuff was great.
