One group chose each options. In both cases I printed artifact descriptions in a deck of index cards, and handed them out randomly - giving more to the players who rolled fewer mutations.<br /><br />My game was very different from Jim's, which I played in later in the con. I went with a sandboxy cross-over of the Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan (written by players from his group, with a Starship Warden easter egg) that involved Gamma World-style combat and exploration.
